An ophthalmic registrar is a qualified doctor completing further training specialising in the field of ophthalmology. The Launceston Eye Institute participates in providing training and supervision for registrars usually for a 3 month rotation in their final 2 years, prior to becoming a specialist consultant. A qualified ophthalmologist who becomes a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) has completed more than 10-15 years of study.
